Testimonials
"I would like to use this grant to help provide our homeless seniors with an unforgettable senior year. This money will not only provide them with useful items but it will also allow them to participate in many events they wouldn't be able to otherwise... By receiving this grant we can give our students who are most in need, a senior year filled with memories that will last a lifetime! .. I feel lucky to work in a district that gives us the chance to do better... Thank you to all who make this chance even possible!"

"As part of our Nature Center and Garden, the Reptile Refuge is an important aspect of the learning experience. By creating a true living environment for our reptiles, subjects from physics, to chemistry, to biology, and more, can all be experienced in a real-world scenario by the children…. Observing and caring for the animals instills a sense of responsibility and respect for life, increasing sensitivity and awareness of the feelings and needs of others. " - Kathleen Irvine, Niemes Elementary School
"Students are able to experience what it is like to become engineers and scientists while using STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. STEM helps students understand real world applications and prepare them for 21st Century careers. More than ever before, there are more opportunities for Engineering, using technology, Science related job, and understanding mathematics. With the school being located in a low-income area, using STEM and technology will help these students with their future in whatever they do." - Nikki Durran, Palms Elementary School
"By instituting a Writing Center, the site hopes to provide students with a one-on-one tutoring experience meant to support writing performance across grade levels and content areas. By providing students with this academic support and interpersonal interaction, students should feel more capable of achieving academic success in their writing while building healthy relationships with other students on campus. Students in grades 9-12 will be able to participate as either tutors or program participants. Students who have shown ability in English Language Arts will complete an application and selection process before undergoing peer-tutoring training so that they can provide an academic, metacognitive, and emotional support struggling students need to feel successful in completing writing tasks. The Writing Center will be structured so that the students can receive support in any writing assignments across all content areas. " --Nicole Bear, Gahr High School
"The intent of PBIS Tiers of Success project is to put into place a system of support to address the social and emotional needs of our student population so that they can excel academically. We will be utilizing incentives to support our Tier I and II of PBIS and purchase art supplies for our Tier III art therapy program. By addressing the needs of our students now, we hope to provide them with the tools to be prepared for high school and beyond. " - Valerie Gutierrez, Tetzlaff Academy
